The National Conference
The Conference has timely, relevant topics and outstanding speakers and panelists. To highlight a few of many outstanding speakers: We will welcome Michael G. Oxley, former Congressman and the current Vice Chairman of The Nasdaq Stock Market, to give the Opening Address on Thursday, June 26, 2008. Just before Bob Woodward, award-winning writer for The Washington Post, delivers the Annual Luncheon address, we will have an address from Richard D. Parsons, Chairman of the Board of Time Warner. Other highlights include an SEC Update from John White, Director of the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance, a discussion with Martin Lipton moderated by Charles Elson, and an open forum with former SEC "Voices" including Martin Dunn, David Martin and Alan Beller. We will have panels that cover What's Hot with the Pension Funds/Shareholder Activists as well as with Large Institutional Investors, Hot Issues in Executive Compensation and for the Audit and Governance Committees, What's Hot with the Delaware Judiciary, and Hot Issues in Health, Environment and Safety Governance. We will have numerous break-out sessions which will cover XBRL, Compliance Issues and the Board, Notice and Access, and Best Practices in Subsidiary Management and Drafting Minutes. The Planning Committee has also set aside time for not-for-profit and private company members to have a networking lunch on Friday, June 27th. Our free, pre-conference program begins on Wednesday morning. with a professional development workshop entitled "Managing Stress" led by Dr. Janet Taylor, Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at Columbia University's Harlem Hospital. This presentation will be followed with a luncheon for those interested in networking with other members from small and mid-cap companies, a group of members whose numbers are growing and for whom we want to provide excellent programs and services. On Wednesday afternoon we will hold our traditional ethics course for our lawyer members needing CLE credits entitled "Ethics, Law and Corporate Governance" led by Ronald F. Duska, Charles Lamont Post Chair of Ethics and the Professions at The American College. And a variety of social activities and sporting events balances the program and makes the National Conference among the most popular of Society functions. The National Conference also provides members of the Society with an invaluable opportunity to make new acquaintances among Society members and guests. One of the major benefits of Society membership is the continuing opportunity to meet and exchange with other members information, methods and experiences relating to the duties of Corporate Secretaries and issues facing their companies.
